Hajvery University organized one day seminar on “Areas to be focused in Pharmacy Practice in Pakistan”

School of Pharmacy, Hajvery University organized a one-day seminar on the subject of “Areas to be focused on in Pharmacy Practice in Pakistan” on 4th February, Thursday. Dr. Zaheer-ud-din-Babar, Head of Pharmacy Practice, School of Pharmacy, Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences, University of Auckland, New Zealand, visited Hajvery University. He is an International Speaker and recipient of prestigious research excellence awards from the University of Auckland.
Dr. Babar has active research linkages with the leading universities in Australia, Europe, and the Asia Pacific Region. He has also acted as a consultant for the World Health Organization (WHO), Health Action International, and International Union against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease, International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP), and for the Pharmaceutical Management Agency of New Zealand. He is a reviewer of top-tier health-policy journals and of funding bodies including the Australian National Health and Medical Research Council. Dr. Babar is the founding editor of the Journal of Pharmaceutical Policy and Practice (www.joppp.org).
The lecture by Dr. Zaheer-ud-din-Babar was informative for students and for faculty as well. With regards to the Pakistani Pharmacy program, he said there are, in particular, many deficiencies in the clinical content of the curriculum that need to be covered. For example, there is limited didactic and practical exposure for students to feel, see and understand their future role in public health, similarly, the subjects assigned for therapeutics, community pharmacy, and pharmaceutical care are also insufficient to equip future graduates with the knowledge that will enable them to play an effective role in direct patient care. He gave some excellent solutions for the current problems of pharmacy practices. He raised the need for community pharmacists, i.e. processing of prescriptions, care of patients, monitoring of drug utilization, extemporaneous preparation, and health promotion. He emphasized that with this addition, many native health care problems will automatically be resolved. Prof. Dr. Khalid Pervaiz represented souvenir to Dr. Zaheer-ud-din-Babar. Dr. Zaheer-ud-din-Babar also thanked and appreciated the management, faculty, and students, and thanked Hajvery University for inviting him.
